What If We Just Went For It?

I think one of the hardest parts of growing up is realizing that your life is actually yours.

Sounds so obvious, but I don’t think we realize how difficult that can be until we start making decisions that other people don't necessarily agree with.

Guilty!

And that means sometimes you can’t have your cake and eat it too because everyone has an opinion about what you should do with your life.

Your parents. Your friends. Your coworkers. Your family.

To them it might seem like it’s coming from a good place. They want to protect you, they want the best for you, they want you to make the “right” decision.

You don’t know the right decision until you choose and see what happens.

When we’re younger, our parents make pretty much every decision for us.

What we eat. Where we go. What time we have to be home. (Although this still happens since I moved back home from college, when will this stop?) Whether we’re allowed to go to that sleepover even though literally everyone else is going.

And then suddenly, I became a big girl with a big girl job, but sometimes it feels like I’m not making decisions for myself.

Obviously, I’m not going to know the answer to everything, but maybe that’s the point?

Maybe we’re not supposed to know.

Maybe we’re supposed to try new things.

Say yes.

Say yes to meeting for a coffee that turns into Tops Diner but because we can’t find pants, we go to Cups instead.

Say yes to Europe with college friends. Say yes to 10 hours in Ibiza and flying in a sequin skirt.

Say yes because it might just be worth it. I know saying yes is worth it.

I have met some pretty amazing people this year and I found myself saying, “Where have you been all my life?”

Shoutout Ang Lombardi, who I call Angie. Mind you, no one else calls her that and it’s not even her favorite nickname! I’ve gotten better at catching myself!

To the possibility that something amazing could come from something I almost talked myself out of, just ask Layla because I did and I’m so happy I didn’t.

You don’t need to live a perfectly curated life where every decision makes sense to everyone around you. You need to live a life that feels like yours.

I NEED TO LIVE A LIFE THAT FEELS LIKE MINE. And sometimes I have a hard time reminding myself that.

You can understand why someone is worried about you and still choose to do what you want.

Because you have to trust yourself and go with your gut in what feels right. And that might mean getting it wrong.

But what if you don’t? What if it’s one of the best things to happen to you? What if the person you weren’t sure about becomes someone incredibly important to you?

Isn’t that worth finding out?

Because at the end of the day, you’re the only one who writes your story. And you only get one, so make it a page turner! Just not a Freida McFadden page turner!!

I find myself constantly waiting for the “right” time. When I’m financially more stable. When we’re a bit older. When it makes sense, but it doesn’t need to make sense to everyone. And sometimes it won’t.

But who cares when it feels right?

Life is too short to not do what you want to do. So tell that person you love them. Say the thing. Love loudly. Find what sets your soul on fire.

Sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to do. A load of laundry when your hamper is about to overflow. Find the time in an already busy day to go to the Apple Store because you forgot your password to your MacBook. End friendships and relationships with people who mean the absolute world to you, but it’s just what was easy, but life isn’t easy.

So should we really settle for easy?

It sucks when you don’t get your way. Because it’s my life, so shouldn’t I get what I want?

These past few months have been a fucking rollercoaster of emotions.

And I don’t even like rollercoasters. So you can imagine how many times I’ve thrown up! Kidding (side eye, pls don’t imagine).

Right now, it’s hard to find words to express how I’m feeling and I’m sure people will judge me for writing a blog like this.

But this is what this space is for. The good. The bad. The ugly. I’m no Carrie Bradshaw YET but this space matters to me and nothing makes my heart warm than messages from readers.

It’s been quite some time! I hope you missed me and my writing because I missed writing.
